Trio Of Huskies Set For Draft Day

Three University of Saskatchewan Huskies hope to hear their name called at the 2015 CFL Draft and move one step closer to playing professional football.

Defensive lineman Timi Agbaje, linebacker Geoff Hughes and safety Mark Ingram are all eligible to be selected in Tuesday night’s draft.

The draft is seven rounds with nine selections in each round. The Ottawa RedBlacks will open the night with the first pick. The CFL Draft will air at 8 p.m. EST on TSN. The first two rounds of the draft will be broadcast live with the subsequent rounds being streamed live on TSN.ca.

Agbaje was a force on the Huskies defensive line in 2014, leading the team with 2.5 sacks and adding another 3.5 tackles for loss. In his two years with the Huskies, the Edmonton, Alta. native recorded a combined 31.5 tackles, 4 sacks, 7.5 tackles for a loss and an interception.

Hughes had a breakout season for the Huskies in 2014, recording a career-high 38 tackles. The Regina, Sask, product also broke up four passes while starting all eight regular season contests for a Huskie defensive unit that forced the most turnovers (21) in the Canada West.

Ingram, the Canada West Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year and a CIS Second Team All-Canadian selection in 2014, proved his ability to impact a defense in his final season for the green and white. The Imperial, Sask. native led the CIS with six interceptions and his team with 48.5 tackles. Ingram added a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four pass break-ups.

If chosen, the three would join the 54 other former Huskies drafted by a CFL team. No Huskies were drafted in 2014, the first time that the draft has not featured a selection from the University of Saskatchewan since 2002. Defensive lineman Levi Steinhauer and receiver Charlie Power were the last Huskies to be selected in 2013.
