Toppers Tops Again

The Saskatoon Hilltops defended their PFC Championship this afternoon, and, once again, will be representing the conference as they defeated the Calgary Colts 38 – 16 in Saskatoon. The game was close in the first half, but the Hilltops pulled away in the second half.

The Colts set a new PFC record for pass completions in a Conference Championship game with 27 completions, and set a CJFL record with 47 attempts in this type of game. Their Yards Passing was 3rd most in PFC history with 375 yards. They also had the most penalty yards assessed against them in a PFC championship.

The Hilltops defense had 6 knock downs today, tied for 3rd place all-time in the conference championships. Individually, Owen Redlick, Colts, and Joshua Melnyk, Hilltops, led the way with 3 and 2 knock downs respectively, placing themselves in the PFC record book.

Another entry into our record book is Jess Kuntz, Calgary Colts with 133 kick off return yards (3rd in the PFC). Brett Thorarinsson, Saskatoonn Hilltops, tops the placekickers by kicking off 9 times (1st in the PFC) for 325 yards (3rd in the PFC).

On the punt returns, both Kuntz and Chad Braun, Hilltops, place 3rd in the PFC with 7 punt returns apiece.

The Canadian Bowl will be held in Saskatoon on Nov. 7 where the Hilltops will be defending their national championship. Their opponent from the BCFC will be the Okanagan Sun, who defeated the Vancouver Island Raiders 54 – 0 this afternoon in Kelowna.
