Toppers Talk: Training Camp Day 3 Building A Team/Building A Field

The Saskatoon Hilltops battled through another night of hot and sticky conditions at Ron Atchison Field, last night.
The team worked on all phases of the game with a focus on communication and the right way to do things.

The club also prepared for specific situational play that they may have to use tonight as they take on past players in the annual alumni game.

Following the workout I had a chance to speak with the co-ordinators.

Sheldon Ball, the offensive coordinator, was smiling ear to ear with some of the execution that he saw from his group especially in the one-on-one drills.

Our full conversation is below:

Meanwhile, defensively the group looks very athletic and are starting to move as a unit swarming ball carriers on a number of occasions during the teams drills last night. Co-ordinator Jeff Yausie knows that the strength of his group and perhaps the team is the linebacking core.

You can hear our entire conversation right here.

As mentioned the Hilltops are back on the field tonight when they will take on their alumni. Kick-off is 7pm at Ron Atchison Field.
And while the Saskatoon Hilltops are building a team their home at Gordie Howe Bowl remains a bustling construction zone. Trucks were in and out of the facility all day as crews continue to prepare the field for the arrivial of the new field turf.

Unfortunately, a wet spring means that the opening of the facility will be delayed for a couple of weeks with the Grand Opening now set for September 6th.

Here are a few of the photos I snapped yesterday:
