Toon-Town Sports Week 16 CFL Predictor:

Week 15 was the week of the upset in the Canadian Football League, or was it? This predictor went four-for-four including upset victories by Toronto AND Ottawa.

So the perfect week has improved this predictor’s record to 41-and-20 for the season. So without further ado here are the ToonTown Communications Week 16 CFL picks.

Hamilton Tiger Cats (6-7 1st in East) LW: 19-17 win vs. BC
Toronto Argonauts (5-8 T2nd in East) LW: 33-23 win vs. Edmonton

Friday night football should be a dandy to kick-off week 16 as Hamilton will try to put some distance between themselves and the East Division against their rivals from Highway 401. They key to this contest is simple, the Hamilton defence has to be able to stop Ricky Ray and the Toronto offence. I the Tiger-Cats can and will extend their longest winning streak in 16 seasons. GO with Hamilton to top Toronto 24-17.

Ottawa REDBLACKS (2-11 4th in East) LW: 42-20 win vs. Winnipeg
B.C. Lions (7-7 4th in West) LW: 19-17 loss at Hamilton

You have to catch the View From the Sidelines this weekend to hear all that is riding on this game for the Lions. Suffice it to say this may be a must win for both teams in their aspirations to earn a play-off spot. The big difference in this game will be playing in Vancouver. The east does not fare well on the left coast and I can see that continuing this week. Take the Lions in a tight 27-24 win.

Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-5 T2nd in West) LW: 31-24 loss vs. Calgary
Montreal Alouettes (5-8 T2nd in East) LW: Bye

This is statement time for the Montreal Alouettes, with the defending Grey Cup champions in their stadium and the retirement of Anthony Calvillo’s jersey the time is now for them to play their best. The Als have had two weeks to prepare for this game and the defence will be ready for the challenge of playing a back-up quarterback. Montreal’s offence is still a mystery to me. If Brandon Whitaker can move the ball on the ground it could be a long day for the Rider defence. I don’t see that happening! I think the Riders are going to find a way to win in a hard place to play. Take the Riders in a 21-18 victory.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-8 5th in West) LW: 42-20 loss at Ottawa
Edmonton Eskimos (9-5 T2nd in West) LW: 33-32 loss at Toronto

A big battle in the west will wrap up week 16 in the CFL as Winnipeg needs a ‘W’ to get back into the play-off hunt while the Eskimos are looking to take another step towards a home play-off game. As much as I would love to see Winnipeg find a way into the play-offs this year I still think that they are a couple of offensive lineman and at least one defensive tackle away. That’s why I am taking Edmonton in a walk. Make the final 38-10.
