The Blades Are Back In Town: Game Preview

The Saskatoon Blades play their first home game in 19 days as they play host to the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight.  The Blades enter the game with a record of 7-7-0-2 through their first 16 games of the 2013-14 season.

Last Game Recap

The Tigers earned a come-from-behind 6-4 win in Medicine Hat over the Blades this past Saturday night.  The Blades held a 3-1 lead early in the second period before the Tigers began to mount their comeback. Medicine Hat proceeded to score 5 goals in the next 20 minutes to lead 6-3 before a powerplay goal from Cory Millette got Saskatoon back within a pair late in the game.  Saskatoon’s other offence came from Matt Revel and Nathan Burns, who scored two goals only 9 seconds apart in the second period.  Offensively, the Tigers were led by captain Curtis Valk and defenceman Kyle Becker, who each had two goals in the win.  Saskatoon went 1 for 2 on the PP and 2 for 4 on the PK.  Saskatoon-product Daniel Wapple picked up the win in goal for the Tigers while Alex Moodie made 42 saves in the loss for Saskatoon.

Top Line Stays Hot

The Blades continue to get top end production from their top line of Nathan Burns, Collin Valcourt and Nikita Scherbak.  The trio combined for 5 more points on Saturday in Medicine Hat after posting 4 points in Red Deer on Friday.  Over the past 4 games, they have combined for 7 goals and 21 points.  For the month of October, the line has put up 23 goals and 59 points.  Scherbak currently leads all WHL rookies in scoring with 23 points in 15 games played and is currently riding an 8-game point scoring streak.

A Return To Home Ice

The Saskatoon Blades are back on home ice tonight for the first time since October 11th when they went head to head against the Swift Current Broncos.  Over the span of playing seven straight road games, the Blades put 4 wins, 2 losses and a shootout loss.  Saskatoon was dead even offensively and defensively over the seven game segment, scoring 27 goals and surrendering 27 goals.  Saskatoon has posted a record of 3-2 in 5 home games so far in 2013-14, outscoring the visiting opposition by a count of 16-15.

2012-13 Season Series

The Saskatoon Blades held a definite edge over the Medicine Hat Tigers during the 2012-13 regular season.  The two squads squared off four times, with Saskatoon posting a record of 4-0, outscoring the Tigers by a count of 23-11.  The Tigers earned a measure of revenge in the postseason, sweeping the Blades in 4 games in the first round.
