Saskatoon Climbs To The Hilltop of the PFC! A Pictorial Look

The Saskatoon Hilltops for the 16th time since 1977 are Prairie Football Conference Champions. The Toppers downed the visiting Calgary Colts 27-7 at Saskatoon Minor Football Field, Sunday.

The Toppers took control early on scoring on their first possession of the game when Jared Andreychuk would find Davis Mitchell open for a 22 yard touchdown. The Colts, however, would answer on their third possession of the game when Quarterback Brett Hunchak would plunge across the goal line to tie the game at 7.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????After a two and out the Hilltops defence would come up big and not only force a fumble but also . A pair of plays later and the Hilltops would punch it in when Andreychuk would find a streaking Evan Kopchinski to make it 14-7 after the first quarter.

The Hilltops defence would strike again late in the opening stanza when they would force come up big on a third and short, stopping a quarterback sneak in its tracks and getting the ball back for the offence. The Blue and Gold’s offence would then move the ball down the field, eventually leading to a 6 yard pass from Andreychuk to Davis Mitchell. The first half scoring would then be rounded out by Brett Thorarinson who would connect on a 29 yard field goal.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Turn to the second half and the Hilltops would play very conservative chewing up yardage while allowing the clock to wind down. The Toppers would manage a field goal with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter when Thorarinson would boot a 19 yard field goal to wrap up the scoring.
Statistically, the Hilltops would end the day with 539 yards in net offence compared to Calgary’s 322. The Toppers would run the ball for 214 yards and pass for 329. While the Colts ran for 141 and passed for 232.


?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Individually; Saskatoon’s Jaren Andreychuk would complete 20 of his 31 pass attempts for 329 yards, 3TD’s and 2 INTs. On the ground Logan Fischer carried the ball 28 times for 183 yards. While in the air, Davis Mitchell hauled in 9 passes for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns and Evan Kopchinski caught 7 balls for 151 yards and 1 TD.
On Calgary’s side Brett Hunchak was 19 for 26 for 205 yards with 1 INT, on the ground Zavier Ramsey carried the ball 16 times for 81 yards, and through the air Cole Meyer made 8 catches for 89 yards.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????The Hilltops are now off until Saturday November 8th when they will travel to Langley, British Columbia to take on the BC Champion Rams in the Canadian Bowl.
Due to the Ontario Football Conference changing their maximum age from 22 to 24 there will be no Inter-Gold Cup this year.
