Riders Look To Make Lemonade In Deal

The rumblings out of Riderville were founded after all.

One day after the Riders dropped their opening game on Thursday to Toronto reports began to surface from inside the Rider lockeroom that free-agent signing Shawn Lemon was unhappy and asking for a trade.

Less than 24 hours later the Riders granted him his wish sending him to Toronto for a Canadian Offensive Lineman, and international Quarterback. The Riders also had to send a conditional draft pick to the Argos.

Lemon didn’t have to go far to join his new team as Toronto is staying in Regina this week preparing for their week three contest in B.C. on Thursday night.

Here is the full release from the Riders:

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired national offensive lineman Matt Sewell and international quarterback Mitchell Gale from the Toronto Argonauts. In exchange the Riders have sent international defensive lineman Shawn Lemon and a conditional pick in the 2018 CFL Draft to the Argos.

Sewell (6’7 – 340) is in his third CFL season after originally being selected by the Toronto Argonauts in the 1st round (8th overall) of the 2013 CFL Draft. Through two seasons the 26-year-old McMaster product has played 35 regular season games.

Gale (6’1 – 225) is a four year CFL veteran after originally joining the Argos ahead of the 2013 season. The 26-year-old Abilene Christian product has played 33 regular season games completing nine of 29 pass attempts for 100 yards and two touchdowns while adding 33 carries for 91 yards and one touchdown.
