Races Beat Out The Weather For A Full Day At ACMS:

Racing Top Stories

The weather gods shone down on the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway Saturday afternoon, allowing a full slate of racing to take place.  Radar showed
rain all around the track, but race officials were only worried once as
a light shower threatened one of the pro truck heat races.  The tires
were already warm though, allowing the race to finish and the shower had
passed by the time the mini stocks took to the track.

Saturday was the season opener for the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Model
Division, which proved tough for a few drivers.  Brothers Ian and Kelly
Admiraal made the haul all the way from Edmonton, only to have rough
finishes.

Ian Admiraal had a bad start has he lost control of his car and nosed
his 2013 Monte Carlo into the front wall during practice.  His crew
worked hard getting the car ready for the first heat race.  In the
qualifier race both he and his brother Kelly tangled with  Jason Gervais
in corner two and all three 2013 Monte Carlos sustained fairly heavy
body damage.  Jason came out the worst though, having taken some frame
damage, lost his oil cooler and had the bell housing on his engine torn up.

Both Admiraals made the feature, but something was still amiss with
Ian’s car as he couldn’t turn the corner when they took the green flag
and he sailed into the wall in corner two.  It just clearly wasn’t their
day as they needed assistance to load both cars into their hauler for
the trip back to Edmonton.

Trent Seidel had a good day though in the spiffy looking #70, Elance
Steel 2013 Camaro, as he took top honours in time trials at 14.741
seconds and first in the WSSL Auto Parts feature.  Glen Hertzke took up
second place in time trials with the #14 SPI Security 2012 Impala.
Howard Crossman was third.

It wasn’t all bad news for the Admiraals as Kelly brought his #8 across
the finish line first in the heat race, followed by Jim Gaunt’s #55 Sky
Financial Impala and Trent Seidel in the #70 Elance Steel Camaro.  Jim
Gaunt stepped it up and brought the #55 Sky Financial Impala across the
line first in the qualifier race, followed by Trent Seidel and Howard
Crossman.

Only five cars finished the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Model 50 lap
feature, with Trent Seidel taking home the commemorative checkered flag
with the #70 Elance Steel Camaro.   Jim Gaunt followed 1.3 seconds later
in the #55 Sky Financial Impala.  Rookie Kenny Heintz in his first late
model race dodged a couple of wrecks to take up the third podium
position in his #62 2013 Amsoil Monte Carlo SS.

In the PartSource Mini Stocks, Scott Barrand took his first checkered
flag of the year with his #1 Tailgatorz Saturn in the heat race.  He was
followed by the #92 of Brennan Kirton and #15 Dawson Reddekopp.  Tristan
Ransom took the checkered flag in the qualifier with the #13 Saskatoon
Sports Car Club BMW.  He was being chased down by #15 Dawson Reddekopp
and #95 Robin Boomsma.

Dawson Reddekopp bested the group, taking home the checkered flag in the
Parts Source Mini Stock Feature race with his #15 J & S Cabinets Acura
Integra.  #1 Scott Barrand took up second, while #13 Tristan Ransom
filled out the top three.

#67 Ken Ross was first to the line in the Grace Byer Remax Silverado in
the first heat race for the SKL Trailer Pro Trucks.  #50 Ben Pogoda was
second and rookie #10 Kevin Dyck third.  Aaron Anderson beat the group
to the line in the second heat race with the #19 Saskatoon Battery
Direct Toyota Tundra, being chased down by #93 Neil Schneider and #14
Wade Wohlford.

Rookie Andrew Hardy took first place honours in the first qualifier race
in his #15 D&S Homes Green Bryer Dodge Ram.  #19 Aaron Anderson and #14
Wade Wohlford did their best to get past Andres, but had to settle for
second and third.  Prince Albert’s Shantel Firth was first in the second
qualifier in her #49 Prairie Dodge Association Dodge Ram.  #18 Bill
Zubrecki and #8 Andrew Clewes followed her lead across the line.

In the SKL Trailers Pro Truck feature race, Neil Schneider piloted the
#93 Burco Electrical Contractors Toyota Tundra to the finish, beating
#14 Wade Wohlford and #19 Aaron Anderson.

Racing hits the track again next Saturday, June 1.  The Big Bore Super
Truck Racing Series make their first appearance of the season at Auto
Clearing Motor Speedway, as do the Earth Works Sask Legends Series and
the Mid West Combustion Sportsman Division.  Rounding out the program
will be the Budget Car and Truck Rental Street Stock Division.
Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m. with the first green flag at 6:05 p.m.
