2013 WHL playoffsThe defending Western Hockey League Champions are off to the second round

The Edmonton Oil Kings moved on to round two of the WHL play-offs last night with a 4-1 victory over Kootenay in game five of their series. Curtis Lazar scored twice to pace the Edmonton attack while, Stephan Legault continued his torrid pace with a goal in the third period. Legault has now scored 34 goals in his last 50 games.

The Oil Kings, meantime, outscored the Ice 25-4 in the five game series.

Edmonton will now play Medicine Hat in Round two, while the other Eastern Conference Semi-Final will feature Calgary taking on Red Deer.


Out West, Ty Rattie scored three goals and added a pair of helpers for Portland as they pasted Everett 11-4. Portland now leads the series 3-games-to-1 and can wrap the set up tonight in Everett.
