More Blades Moves

General Manager and Head Coach Bob Woods announced Saturday that the Saskatoon Blades have claimed centre Landon Welykholowa off waivers from the Calgary Hitmen.

Welykholowa, 18, split the 2013-14 season between the Hitmen, Victoria Royals and the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Calgary Canucks. In 34 Western Hockey League games last season (18 with Victoria, 16 with Calgary), the ’96-born Alberta product recorded one goal, five points and eight penalty minutes. In five post-season contests with the Hitmen, he recorded four goals, finishing second on the team in that category.

Welykholowa was originally drafted by the Prince Albert Raiders in the third round – 58th overall – in 2011.

Meanwhile, the Blades announced yesterday that they have reacquired defenceman Ryan Coghlan from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a seventh round pick in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Coghlan appeared in 35 games with the Blades last season, recording four goals, 10 points and 14 penalty minutes before being traded to the Raiders on Dec. 28, 2013, where he added one goal, three points and 21 penalty minutes in 22 games.

The ’95-born blueliner, who was reassigned to Junior A on Sept. 25, had two penalty minutes and a +2 rating in two games with the Raiders this season.
