Messam Powers Riders Past Bombers

After only scoring three points in the opening half the Saskatchewan Roughriders needed to find a spark on offence.

The actually found an explosion. Former Canadian Player of the year, Jerome Messam, replaced Will Ford in the Rider backfield in the second have and promptly racked up 129 yards on the ground on 19 carries.

Messam’s allowed the Riders to move the ball and spell their defence just enough to escape the Manitoba capital with a 23-17 victory over the Blue Bombers.

The difference in the game was the Rider defence who scooped and scored on a fumble in the first half and then a Terrell Maze pick-six with 2:16 remaining stunned a sold-out Investors Group Field and gave the Riders the needed points for the victory.

Of concern for the Riders will be their inability to move the ball in the opening half against the Peg as well as a pair of missed very makeable field goals by Chris Milo.

The Riders will have a chance to figure those out as they are now off until next Saturday when they host the Montreal Alouettes at Mosaic Stadium.
