Memorial Cup Stays In The East In The West

The Western Hockey League announced today the Red Deer Rebels, the City of Red Deer and the province of Alberta will host the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup following a vote by the WHL Board of Governors.

The Red Deer Rebels will host a media conference on Thursday, October 9th after earning the right to host the event. WHL Commissioner Ron Robison, Rebels players and representatives as well as local and provincial officials will be in attendance. The 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup will mark the first time Red Deer has hosted the event and the first time since 1974 that the Canadian Hockey League’s national championship has been held in the province of Alberta.
