Huskies Welcome Old Face To Coaching Staff

Huskie Athletics head football coach Brian Towriss is pleased to announce the hiring of former University of Saskatchewan quarterback Laurence Nixon as the team’s quarterback coach.

Nixon had a successful playing career as a member of the Huskies football team from 2006-11. During his time with the Huskies, Nixon was named Canada West Most Valuable Player and a CIS Second Team All-Canadian in 2010. Leading the Huskies to the Hardy Cup final in 2009, Nixon sits second on the program’s career passing yards list with 7,345 yards and pass completions with 535. He threw 36 touchdowns in his five seasons.

“We are very excited to have Laurence join our coaching staff,” said Towriss who is entering his 31st year as head coach. “Laurence’s experience as a successful quarterback in the CIS provides him with a tremendous understanding of offence at our level. He has stayed current with both our team and the league, which will prove to be a huge benefit.”

Nixon, a University of Saskatchewan Arts & Science graduate, has provided colour commentary for Canada West broadcasts on Shaw TV for the last three seasons.
