Huskies Hustle on Day 3 Of Camp: Recap & Sights And Sounds

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies battled the elements and a tough schedule on the second to last day of spring camp.

The Dogs held their lone two-a-day practices of the four day work-outs yesterday.

A crisp morning was fierce with a number of physical battles on both sides of the ball. Additionally, the younger players were given an opportunity to make an impression with a number of the drills featuring them.

In the afternoon the 2+ hour session saw an emphasis on special teams. Both the punt cover team and field goal units were put to the test.

The big positive from both workouts was the effort that the team has put into their off season work-outs as conditioning was not a fact despite two on field sessions today.

Just as admirable was the players focus when the skies opened up 90 minutes into the afternoon session the intensity and pace did not skip a beat.

Play of the Day: There were a number of nominees in day two. An interception by Matt Long drew praise from the defensive coaches. Offensively, Drew Bexson made another remarkable catch in traffic for a big game in an early rep. However, the kickers had an opportunity to put their foot on the ball and it was third year kicker Sean Stenger who, despite a swirling wind, put one through the uprights from just outside of 50 yards. 20150502_162937

They Said It:

Special Teams Coordinator Brian Guebert was instrumental in coordinating the strength and conditioning plan. He talked about the teams dedication to those workouts as well as some pending tough decisions that the coaching staff is going to have to make.

Also Quarterback Drew Burko shared his thoughts on camp and the upcoming East-West Bowl.

AND listen to Dylan Kemp. The fifth year from Rosetown is ready for his final season of eligibility and he proves that there is no looking back to last year’s Canada West semi-final!
