Huskies Fail To Lock Up Home Play-off Spot

The University of Manitoba Bisons shutout the No. 8 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the fourth quarter en route to a lopsided 41-8 victory Friday night at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg.

With the win, the Bisons improve to 3-3 on the season. Saskatchewan drops to 4-2.

With just a Saskatchewan rouge scored in the first quarter, Manitoba’s offence caught fire to score 17 points in the second, 14 in the third and 10 in the fourth. Matt Sawyer tallied two touchdowns for the Bisons, while quarterback Jordan Yantz and Kienan LaFrance also scored touchdowns. Ryan Jones added two field goals – from 36-yards and 40-yards – in the win, while Nic Demski scored on a 76-yard punt return.

The Huskies lone touchdown in the game was on an 11-yard run by Shane Buchanan at 10:52 in the fourth quarter.
Yantz went 15-for-20 in the game with one touchdown and 189 yards. Backup Theo Deezar also saw time completing 6-of-12 passes for 66 yard and one touchdown. Demski and Alex Vitt each tallied 57 receiving yards to lead the Bisons. Sawyer finished with 40 yards on five catches and two touchdowns. LaFrance led the Bisons offence on the ground with 117 yards on 16 carries.
Huskie quarterback Drew Burko was 14-for-27 for 164 yards in the game. Kit Hillis was the leading receiver with 49 yards on two catches, while Buchanan had 30 yards on nine carries.

Jordan Linnen led the Bisons on defence with seven tackles. As a group, Manitoba had four sacks in the game.

Richard Zacharias tallied 11 tackles for the Huskies.

Saskatchewan returns home to host the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday, October 25 in the final home regular season game. Manitoba travels to Regina to meet the Rams.

    Yantz suffered a concussion on a late hit near the end of the 2nd quarter. Deezar was a lot better than the 6 of 12. He was nervous on his first drive but he settled in very well & the offense just kept rolling.
