Huskie Spring Camp: Sights And Sounds – Day 1:

Football Huskies Top Stories

After an inspiring Dogs Breakfast the University of Saskatchewan Huskies took to the turf at Mosaic Stadium for day one of spring camp.

First off, congratulations to the Huskie Football Foundation for another successful Dogs breakfast! Nearly 2000 patrons took in the 15th anniversary breakfast that raised $100,000 for Huskie scholarships. Additionally, Ronnie Lott was one of the best speakers that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing! Lott was sensational and his message to find a little “Woo” in our life everyday was tremendously inspiring.

That inspirational message obviously resounded with the Huskies when they took the field after an afternoon of meetings. The team came out in a very business-like manner and went about the practice plan in a very professional manner.

The team’s focus was evident as well as their enthusiasm and spirit as they worked on all aspects of their game. From running the hurry-up offence to fierce one-on-one battles the team looked extremely sharp.

PLAY OF THE DAY: The play of the evening was recorded by Drew Bexson. The third-year Lloydminister native who is transitioning from running-back to full-time receiver broke coverage in the secondary to streak to a 54-yardpass reception in an early offensive drill.

THEY SAID WHAT? During the work-out I had a chance to catch up with Defensive Coordinator Ed Carleton, new recruit/Linebacker Justin Filteau and Matt Lueng who will be back with the Dogs’ after being granted an exemption from Canada West after an injury ended his season in the first quarter of the first game last year. Hear those interviews by clicking here.

The Dogs are back on the field for their second work-out tomorrow afternoon at 5:45pm at Griffiths Stadium.
