HUSKIES START DRIVE TO UNIVERSITY CUP

For the second straight season, the University of Saskatchewan men’s hockey team knows they have a guaranteed shot at the national title as hosts of the 2014 CIS PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op.

But the first goal of the 2012-13 Canada West silver medalist and 11 time conference champion Huskies is navigating their way through the tough 28-game season.

Hockey is the third schedule released in Canada West Universities Athletic Association Schedule Week. Basketball and volleyball schedules were released Monday and Tuesday, while soccer will be released Thursday and wrestling, cross country and track & field will wrap up the week on Friday.

Highlights of the schedule include:

–          The Huskies face bitter rival the Alberta Golden Bears on October 18-19. The weekend tilt also marks the first home games in the season.

–          The second semester kicks off at home against the Manitoba Bisons January 3-4.

–          Canada West Playoffs begin February 21 with a best-of-three quarter-final series.

–          The 2014 CIS PotashCorp University Cup presented by Coop runs March 20-23 at Credit Union Centre.
