CFL QB Carousel Takes Another Spin

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed import quarterback Zach Collaros to a contract through the 2016 season, the team announced today.

Collaros, a 6-0, 216-pound native of Steubenville, Ohio, threw for 2,316 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing 66.2% of his passes in 18 games (eight starts) with the Toronto Argonauts last season. The 25-year-old pivot joined the Argos as a free agent in June of 2012.

Zach is a very talented quarterback with a great future in front of him. He’s a dedicated, proven winner and a natural leader with tremendous character. We are very excited that he has chosen to join our football team,” said General Manager and Head Coach Kent Austin.

Collaros was named the CFL’s Player of the Month last September after leading the Argos to a historic four-game winning streak on the road. His most impressive performance occurred during week 13 in Calgary, where he threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns against the Stampeders.

Over the course of his NCAA career at Cincinnati, Collaros completed 485-of-783 pass attempts for 6,272 yards and 51 touchdowns while rushing 268 times for 1,240 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Big East in 2010. Collaros spent time with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers after finishing his collegiate career.

“I’m very excited to join the Tiger-Cats. This team has all the pieces in place for success now and in the future,” said Collaros. “I can’t wait to work with the players, coaches and staff in Hamilton and play in front of an outstanding fan base at Tim Hortons Field.”

The Ticats also announced that import quarterback Henry Burris has been released. Burris was slated to become a free agent on February 15.
