Blades To Stay On The Bull

There will be no need to turn the dial to catch Blades action on the radio as the team has announced a new 4-year contract extension with Saskatoon Media Group, the parent company of 92.9 The Bull.

The new contract runs through to the end of the 2017-18 WHL season and will see all Blades regular season and playoff games broadcast live on the air, along with a minimum of two exhibition games per season.

“We’ve had a great relationship with 92.9 The Bull and sister stations CJWW and 98 Cool FM over the years,” said Saskatoon Blades president Steve Hogle.  “These stations are great platforms to further build the strong following for Saskatoon Blades hockey.  We look forward to hearing thrilling games on the air, led by the call of the legendary Les Lazaruk.”

The contract extension continues  the long-standing relationship between the Blades and Saskatoon Media Group.  The Blades have been proud partners with SMG since 1994 when the Blades first hit the air on the AM dial at 600 CJWW.  The team moved to the FM side of the dial in 1999, starting with Hot 93 in 1999 before making the switch to 92.9 The Bull in 2008.

As mentioned, the deal ensures the return of the voice of the Blades Les Lazaruk to the airwaves.  The broadcaster will be kicking off his 21st season as the play-by-play voice of the Blades when the puck drops on the 2014-15 season.

This past season Lazaruk was honoured by the club after he completed his 1500th Saskatoon Blades broadcast.
