Blades Set To Close Out Road Trip

The Saskatoon Blades look to head home on a positive note as they close out their US Division road trip tonight against the Spokane Chiefs.

The Blades saw their record fall to 0-4 on the trip last night as they dropped a 3-1 decision in Kennewick, Washington against the Tri-City Americans.  It was the first period that ended up costing the Blades as the Americans scored all three of their goals in the opening 20 minutes.  The Americans also got a pair of those goals on the man advantage, forcing the Blades to attempt to play catchup.  A second period tally from Logan Harland provided some offence for the Blades, but Eric Comrie had the rest of the answers for the Americans as he made 25 saves on 26 shots to pick up the victory.

The Blades will be looking to a specific veteran in their lineup tonight to try and push them back into the win column. A familiar face returns to Spokane tonight when Collin Valcourt suits up for Saskatoon.  The left winger from Red Deer, Alberta suited up in 163 regular season and 29 playoff games for the Chiefs during his two and a half years with the franchise.  Over that time, the 6’2, 216 pound forward scored 39 goals and added 51 assists.  The Blades acquired Valcourt at the January 10th trade deadline last season.  He’s currently on pace to set career high totals in goals, assists, points and +/- in 2013-14.

The Blades dropped the only game between these two teams during the 2012-13 season, falling by a count of 4-1 on home ice on December 5th, 2012.  Spokane got two goals in the first, one in the second and one in third in the win, with those coming off the stick’s of Todd Fiddler, Liam Stewart, Blake Gal and Mitch Holmberg.  The Blades outshot the Chiefs by a score of 31-22, getting their lone goal from Matej Stransky.

Tonight’s game goes at 7:05PM local time from Spokane, 9:05PM Saskatchewan time.  If you can’t see the game live, you can stay up to date by watching on WHL Live, listening along on 92.9 The Bull or following @bladeshockey on Twitter.

Saskatoon’s next home game goes on December 7th against the Regina Pats in a special retro jersey night.
