Blades Offer Up A Huge Cake:

The Saskatoon Blades are going to finish off their 50th season with a bang, literally. Saturday’s game against the Prince Albert Raiders is the final game on the Blades schedule for 2013-14 and will mark the team’s annual Fan Appreciation Night.

To commemorate the night, the Blades will be chasing WHL history by starting the 50/50 pot at $50,000 as soon as the doors open.

“As far as we can gather, this is the biggest starting pot for a 50/50 prize in WHL history,” said Blades managing partner Colin Priestner. “We’ve had this in our plans for the entire season but wanted to save this announcement for the final week of the year, to give our fans a well-earned surprise.”

If you recall, the Blades and the Credit Union Centre did something similar last season with a $25,000 starting pot during the building’s 25th Anniversary celebration. That pot ended up reaching over $130,000. The Blades anticipate that this will climb even higher.

“$130,000, $150,000, maybe even $200,000. The sky is going to be the limit on Saturday. There won’t be a limit or a cap on the 50/50 prize,” added Priestner, noting that all proceeds will go to the Saskatoon Blades Education Fund.

Not only will one fan walk out of the building tens of thousands of dollars richer, but there are also going to be a number of other exciting things going on for the game. Some valuable prizes will be handed out to fans in attendance, including a furniture set from Leon’s worth over $3500 and a recliner for Furniture World. The Blades will also be handing out their yearly player awards, both before and after the game. The night will end with the 50/50 winner being announced before a dynamic fireworks display on the ice to end the year.

To help account for the extra buzz in the building the doors will be open at 5:30PM on Saturday night, 30 minutes earlier than usual. Fans are encouraged to get in as early as possible to ensure they have a shot at the massive 50/50 pot.
