Blades Make Another Add

General Manager and Head Coach Bob Woods announced Thursday that the Saskatoon Blades have acquired ’94-born forward Sam McKechnie from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound product of Airdrie, AB, split the 2013-14 season with the Thunderbirds and Lethbridge Hurricanes, recording a combined seven goals, 18 points and 50 penalty minutes in 66 regular-season games, adding another goal and two points in nine post-season contests.

McKechnie, 20, broke out offensively in 2012-13, scoring a career-high 26 goals and 43 points in 72 games with the Hurricanes, who drafted the winger in the third round – 47th overall – in 2009. In 212 career games over four seasons, Mckechnie has 46 goals, 92 points and 144 penalty minutes.

McKechnie has one assist and two penalty minutes in two games so far this season.
