Hockey Saskatoon Blades Top Stories WHL

The Saskatoon Blades season came to a close on Saturday night with a 6-4 loss to Prince Albert.

Following the contest the team handed out their individual awards.

Saskatoon Blades leading scorer Nikita Scherbak took home quite the haul during Saturday’s team awards, which were held both before and after the regular season finale against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The product of Moscow, Russia was named as the Blades Most Valuable Player, Rookie Of The Year, Plus/Minus Leader and 3-Star Award Winner. The winger also took home the Top Scorer Award, becoming the first rookie to lead the team in scoring since Garett Bembridge completed the feat in 1996-97.

Other highlights of the evening included defenceman Nelson Nogier taking home Defenceman Of The Year and Scholastic Player Of The Year. Alex Moodie and Brett Stovin split the Community Minded Award after both completing 22 hours worth of work in the community this year, while Nick Zajac was named Best Defensive Forward.
