Blades Add One – Look To Clip Hawks

OFF THE TOP: The Saskatoon Blades (4-8-0) continue a season-long six-game homestand tonight as they face off against the Portland Winterhawks (4-9-2). The defending Western Conference Champions are off to a rocky start, but are coming off a 5-2 victory last night over the Prince Albert Raiders. … Layne Viveiros led the way offensively, recording one goal and two assists, while Bolton Pouliot made 29 saves in the win. … Chase De Leo leads the Winterhawks in scoring this year, tallying eight goals and nine assists for 27 points in 13 games.

LAST TIME OUT: Carter Folk recorded a hat trick, while Stuart Skinner made 32 saves as the Lethbridge Hurricanes knocked off the Blades 7-2 on Friday night at SaskTel Centre. … Cameron Hebig and Sam McKechnie scored for the home side, while Alex Moodie was on the hook for the loss, allowing all seven goals on 29 shots. … In the loss, the Blades lost a couple key contributors to injury. Rookie Wyatt Sloboshan suffered a broken jaw and could miss as many as eight weeks, while Alex Forsberg also left due to injury (upper body), but he will need to be reevaluated before a timeline can be given.

As a result, the Blades have recalled forward Luke Gingras from the Valley West Hawks of the British Columbia Minor Midget League. The 16-year-old pivot is currently second in league scoring, recording 20 points (8G, 12A) in only eight games this season. Gingras, a product of Langley, BC, appeared in three pre-season games with the Blades earlier this year, tallying one assist and two penalty minutes.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Coming off his first-career WHL win – a 31-save effort over the Kootenay Ice – Nik Amundrud is exepcted to get the call in the crease. In four appearances so far this season, Amundrud has posted a 1-2-0 record, along with a 4.61 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.

GOING STREAKING: Adding to it with a goal last night vs. Lethbridge, Sam McKechnie is now on a five-game point streak, recording three goals and seven points in the stretch dating back to Oct. 15’s road win over the Swift Current Broncos.

INJURY REPORT: Wyatt Sloboshan (broken jaw) is out; Alex Forsberg (upper body) is doubtful; Nick Zajac (upper body) is questionable; Ryan Coghlan (shoulder) is out.

RECENT TRANSACTIONS: Recalled forward Luke Gingras from the Valley West Hawks of the BCMML on Oct. 25; reassigned defenceman Cole Bevan to the Coquitlam Express of the BCHL (Junior A) on Oct. 18.

MILESTONES: Blades captain Brett Stovin played his 200th career WHL game on Saturday, Oct. 18 vs. Edmonton.
