Blades Add A Dozen At Bantam Draft And Veteran

The Blades brass left the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary with nothing but smiles after adding 12 new members to the Saskatoon Blades family. 4 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 1 goalie made up the twelve picks for the Bridge City bunch.

Blades HC and GM Bob Woods was extremely pleased with the draft.

“We got a lot of picks that we were hoping to get in good spots. Anytime you can do that you’re pretty pleased.”

“Our first four picks were guys who were in our top 18 so we look at that as getting four 1st round picks.”

The picks went as follows:

1st (12) – Jonny Tychonick: D – Calgary Flames (AMBHL)

1st (18) – Chase Wouters: F – Lloydminster Heat (AMBHL)

2nd (39) – Payton McIsaas: D – Fort Sask. Rangers (AMBHL)

3rd (45) – Matthew Mosher: F – Delta Hockey Academy (CSSBHL)

5th (95) – Tyler Lees: F – Notre Dame Hounds (SSMHL)

5th (100) – Brandon Machado: F – Airdrie Xtreme (AMBHL)

8th (176) – Powell Connor: D – Pursuit of Excellent Bantam Prep (CSSBP)

9th (177) –  K’Andre Miller: D – Minnetonka (MN-HS)

10th (199) – Reid Miller: D – Phoenix Jr. Coyotes (T1EBHL)

11th (221) – Kyler Douglas: D – Weyburn Red Wings Bantam AA (SBAAHL)

11th (225) – Jordan Wilde: G – Pursuit of Excellent Bantam Prep (CSSBP)

12th (243) – Jared Bowman: D – NWCAA Stampeders Minor Midget (AMMHL)

The Blades set out looking to fill much needed holes and Woods felt they accomplished just that.

“Looking at the guys we have, it’s a nice mix, we filled a lot of holes in our 50 man list and also tracked a lot of guys that I think are going to be fun players to watch and have those guys that are really playoff type guys too that we’re aiming to be in next year.”

The Blades also added a key piece to next year’s team by adding 20 year old forward, and Saskatoon native, Connor Gay through a trade with the Red Deer Rebels.

Next up for the Blades is the 2015 CHL Import draft in early June in which Saskatoon will pick 2nd overall.
