Blades Game Day: vs. Rebels:

The Saskatoon Blades are back at home for the first time since they opened their season against the Prince Albert Raiders on September 20th.  The Blades enter their 4th game of the 2013-14 season in search of their first victory, currently sitting at a record of 0-3-0-0.

Last Game Recap

The Saskatoon Blades lost a hard-fought battle on Saturday night in Moose Jaw.  After being down by a count of 2-0 by 5:19 of the second period, Saskatoon dug down to get the game all square at two goals each.  Saskatoon first cut the lead in half with 23 seconds remaining in the second period when Ayrton Nikkel cut through the slot, took a drop pass from Cameron Hebig and wired home a wrist shot off the post and in.  Then at 10:50 of the third, the Blades tied the game on the powerplay.  The goal came as Hebig re-directed a Brett Stovin shot past goaltender Justin Paulic to tie the game at two.  But, just over three minutes later, the Warriors took back control of the game as they got a shorthanded tally from Torrin White to make it 3-2.  They added goals from Ben Duperreault (his second of the night) at 17:02 and Sam Fioretti at 19:34 to make the final 5-2.  Troy Trombley stopped 30 shots in goal for Saskatoon, while the Blades were 1 for 3 on the PP and 4 for 5 on the PK.

Riders Add DB

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have signed import defensive back Rod Williams to the team’s roster. Financial details of the contract were not released.

Williams (5’11 – 180) joins the Riders after recently attending training camp with the Minnesota Vikings. The Louisiana native spent the last three seasons in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos appearing in 44 career games. Last season the 26-year-old had 44 defensive tackles, four interceptions and two knockdowns in 17 regular season games.

Things Are Coming To A Head In This Weeks Top 10

From Head Scratchers, to Head Shots, to Head of the Class we will look at them all in this week’s edition of my Top 10 Tuesday…

10 Well let’s start with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and talk about a head scratcher. The Green and White are on a four game losing streak and are now desperate for victories. So what has happened to the team since their last win on Labour Day? The offence seemingly cannot pick up a blitz nor do they have a run game. Defensively the team is on the field way to much while on Special Teams the club up until last week wasn’t getting much of a spark from the third phase. So what can the team do? Personnel changes can’t happen in this short week, the coaching staff isn’t going anywhere. So, are the Riders left to pull themselves up out of this? Absolutely and they can but good luck in a tough BC Place stadium that has never been friendly to the Green and White.
